Article in Bloomington daily The Pantagraph about the taping of a television special at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in downtown Bloomington, IL, called SKATING FOR LIFE BENEFITING SUSAN G. KOMEN FOR THE CURE, that will contribute to the breast cancer research and awareness mission of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and air on the NBC network Saturday, October 25. (Remember that the direct link to this article will expire soon.)

Editor’s note: Relax, kids. This humble Weblog is in no danger of turning into a pumpkin overnight with “The Television of Champaign, Urbana, and the Cities Beyond” tagged on the side like a cruel joke. We sometimes have to roll with the peripheral news that’s fit to report, and if it isn’t going to be Bret Michaels and his “ladies” waltzing through C-U for the cameras then it might as well be something actually worthwhile coming up shortly in the other Twin Cities.

First and foremost, investigate how you can help Susan G. Komen for the Cure before, after, and during October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Then, read this companion Pantagraph piece about champion skater Kurt Browning, who had been scheduled to perform but dropped out due to his father’s illness with the disease. Apart from describing how Browning has seen breast cancer rampage through his family, the article provides contact information for purchasing tickets to the U.S. Cellular Coliseum show and taping, which will take place Wednesday, October 15, 7:30 p.m. A portion of all ticket sales will be donated to Komen.

Finally, mark the 25th on your calendar as a reminder to catch the two-hour NBC telecast, if skating and/or country music happen to be your thing. Along with performances by world-class talent – all with family members who have beat or been beaten by breast cancer – the show will be hosted by survivor and Olympic medalist Peggy Fleming. Nashville superstar Sara Evans will perform as well.
