MFHQ & YOU:
It’s Time for CUBiz: The Short Form!

Despite all appearances, we’re taking the next few weeks off from slaving away on C-U Blogfidential so we can get some sleep, find sustainable income for your humble editor, and begin development on near-future related projects. Have a groovy weekend, but not before checking out the brief tidbits below. We’ll quiz ya later!

ITEMS OF THE WEEK

The Buttered Corn on the Cob Film Festival has already thrown out some dates related to their sophomore event, which will mark a return to 88 Broadway in downtown Urbana: Films will be accepted between now and February 20, 2012, while the final roster will be presented Sunday, April 15, 2012The Avon Theater has announced a bounty of Halloween horror goodness, including the original 1985 FRIGHT NIGHT starring Chris Sarandon and Roddy McDowall on Friday, April 19, and their annual revival of THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW on October 21 and 22; see “Community Film Series” below in our Calendar for the rest! … Lloyd Kaufman and Troma Films will represent at this weekend’s GenCon gaming convention (yes, we know that’s redundant) in Indianapolis; so will our own Thomas Nicol, whose THE WINDOW INTO TIME will grace a 10 p.m. “Horror Shorts” show later tonight, as well as Chris and Anne Lukeman, whose ONCE UPON A TIME IN 1972 will play a “Sci-Fi Shorts” program at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, August 6. Whither the twain shall meet? And, should they?!? … Graham City Productions of Urbana is casting this Sunday, August 7, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Champaign Public Library for several roles in their video comedy sketches; please write grahamcity [at] gmail [dot] com for all the details!

LINKS OF THE WEEK

We’ll keep ‘em short and sweet this outing! First, we mentioned Web site revamps for area theaters last week but forgot to include the Harvest Moon Drive-Moon, which did the same at the beginning of summer, while News-Gazette columnist Julie Worth waxes nostalgic about visiting the Harvest Moon with her family to see CARS 2, noting the encroachment of certain mobile devices in that timeless milieu on the edge of Gibson City. Elsewhere, the Herald-Review reported that the AMC two-screen theater in Taylorville has closed and Tim Cain believes the right entrepreneurial spirits should wrestle it away from the conglomerate. We wrap with some unhinged insanity from our columnist Tyler Tharpe, whose collaboration with Michael Todd Snyder, DOUBLE DOSE OF TERROR!!, has begun to make the review site rounds; two early judgments can be devoured at Horror Year Book and Film Bizarro.

PLEASE. WRITE. NOW.

Time is ticking away, dearest readers! Treat us to your tales of cinematic wonder experienced as academic or permanent residents of MICRO-FILM Country, and in turn we’ll share it with all your fellow readers as those “five significant movie milestones” become part of CUBlog lore! Check out this earlier post which roughly describes what we’re looking for and then exercise those typing fingers by drafting anecdotes that illustrate how you live la vida cinema in Champaign, Urbana, and the cities beyond. Submission deadline is Friday, September 30, 2011!
