CIFC, CMM meet March 15, 20

Hark! Movie-making friends and neighbors will be congregating in the immediate futures of Springfield and Champaign-Urbana so go and mix freely with curiosity and ambition, dearest readers!

Returning president Dean Williams will lead this month’s Central Illinois Film Commission gathering tomorrow, Thursday, March 15, 7 p.m., at a new location, the Schnucks supermarket in Montvale Plaza, 2801 Chatham Rd., Springfield. Attendees should seek out the meeting room in what used to be their video rental store. CIFC connects industry professionals and educates up-and-comers via classes, social events, and Internet tools, along with plugging its members into working sets.

The guest speaker will be former Illinois State Police inspector and author Alva Busch (Roadside Prey) while director/writer Kimberly Conner updates about her currently shooting indie feature, JUMP IN. Contact CIFC secretary Tabitha Bock at tabitha [dot] bock [at] gmail [dot] com or (217) 553-9966 for more information or to suggest future guest speakers, fundraising ideas, and the like. You can also visit their Web site or join their Yahoo! Group for CIFC news.

Closer to home, Champaign Movie Makers affords area filmmakers and talent an opportunity to discuss and join forces on the making of independent cinema. CMM will get together next on Tuesday, March 20, 7 p.m., at SoDo Theatre, 114 S. Neil St., Champaign, and the featured activity will be a “Visual Storytelling Roundtable” during which you can “talk about your favorite visual sequences, interesting ways to develop story and characters without words, and how our own work can be improved by a more conscious use of this visual medium!”

Contact CMM director Thomas Nicol at ChampaignMovieMakers [at] gmail [dot] com for further details or frequent their Facebook and Ning pages for updates!
