Points made on C-U film timeline

~~~~~
Do we have a treat for you, dearest readers and followers of the movies of Champaign, Urbana, and the cities beyond! Even though renovations continue to crawl along at a slug’s pace on C-U Blogfidential, we have a master plan to fill out our Pages section – in essence, the virtual attic to our regular storehouse of reporting – in a manner that will serve you for years to come. Nearly a full year after we put forth our first heavily revised Page, “Periodicals du C-U,” we are happy to introduce our first brand-new Page in several years, “Plot Points du C-U,” which you can play with and learn from at your leisure. It aggregates our “Confidential Almanac” entries that appear sporadically in the Calendar, assembled in chronological order and fully illustrated to provide a solid glance at how “film culture” is defined by our community. (The first Almanac appeared four years ago in May with an item about WITH HONORS, which will coincidentally figure in a new Almanac a few weeks from now.) All capsules retain their CUBlog and external hot links so you can follow along to find out more about your favorite topics, while convenient cross-links within the Page itself provide easy navigation. So, let’s give you a bit of homework to encourage you to follow along with Plot Points! First, scroll through to locate the images included on this post and find out how they relate to downstate. Next, hit the closest “Back to Top” link and then click on “1997” so you may flash back to an era that laid groundwork for the active movie subculture of C-U today. Then, return to the fore of Plot Points once more and click on “2001” to reveal the near-forgotten beginning of our efforts in public showmanship that has culminated in the New Art Film Festival. Finally, zoom “Back to Top” and pick “1976” to get a crash course on an equally forgotten piece of east central Illinois lore that will soon park it in the pages of our upcoming C-U Confidential digest. If you dug this fit of discovery, we hope you will skim through C-U space and time as assembled in the Almanac as well as check back for updates. Enjoy your film history and share this one far and wide!
