Thursday, September 13, 5:30 p.m.: The IPRH Film Series returns with a screening and discussion of the Alfred Hitchcock classic VERTIGO (1958) and how it relates to the year-long theme of “rupture.” Sponsored by the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities. @ KAM Auditorium (Room 62), Krannert Art Museum, UIUC, 500 E. Thursday, September 13, 7 p.m.: Screening of SEOUL TRAIN (2004), a haunting documentary by Jim Butterworth, Aaron Lubarsky, and Lisa Sleeth about an activist “underground railroad” that attempts to help lower-class North Koreans escape their impovershed country through a potentially more devastating route – China. Presented by Jayou Initiative. @ Main Lounge, Wardall Hall/ISR, UIUC, 1010 W. Illinois St., Urbana. Saturday, September 15, 12 p.m. & Sunday, September 16, 12 p.m.: Approximately 30 features and shorts will play the sixth annual Route 66 Film Festival, the “International Film Festival with a Midwestern Flair.” @ Hoogland Center for the Arts, 420 S. Tuesday, September 18 through Saturday, September 22: Films related to the life and work of novelist James Jones will be featured during the third annual Embarras Valley Film Festival, including FROM HERE TO ETERNITY (1953), SOME CAME RUNNING (1958), THE THIN RED LINE (1998), and A SOLDIER’S DAUGHTER NEVER CRIES (1998).
