WB leaks first INFORMANT pic

Last weekend, many Internet entertainment sites that regularly feast on studio flotsam and celebrity gossip received a reward for the things they (apparently) do (well?) in the form of an extensive sneak peek at Warner Bros. Pictures‘ theatrical slate for 2009. The canned synopses and star-centric images reproduced verbatim across the Web illustrate a pretty robust plate, including WATCHMEN, TERMINATOR SALVATION, SHERLOCK HOLMES, and Spike Jonze‘s WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, but C-U Blogfidential noticed that remnants from now-defunct Warner Independent Pictures had been nestled amongst the tentpoles – including THE INFORMANT.

With its registered URL aimed squarely at the WB home page for the moment instead of a dedicated subsite, the press release most likely constitutes the studio’s first official publicity about the Steven Soderberg film dramatizing the Mark Whitacre/Archer Daniels Midland price-fixing scandal. Since we’re well aware of that early Nineties investigative snafu involving the FBI, let’s focus on the studio’s first official still which features bespectacled actor Matt Damon as Whitacre, squeezed into a stall with a lap full of material that is most likely of a classified nature:

Okay, so it doesn’t involve flawed superheroes, killer cyborgs, super sleuths, or fuzzy Maurice Sendak monsters, but none of those movies were filmed in Decatur like this one so this is how we’ll roll.

Warner Bros. plans to open THE INFORMANT nationwide on Friday, September 18, 2009.
