Support your local Oscar party

Of course, this week in movie madness could not end without a Big Show. What more appropriate extravaganza is there to provide such a spark than the 85th annual Academy Awards ceremony at the newly-christened Dolby Theatre in Hollywood? Whether you consider the Oscars a true mark of cinematic excellence or back-patting salute to popular success, we know most of you will be watching it and/or rooting for your favorite films – well, favorites from the nominated field, anyway – to win a naked golden man. Some folks will be hosting their own Oscar parties at home but we’ll highlight a few public spots where you can take in the Tinseltown madness: Sleepy Creek Vineyards in Fairmount/Oakwood (6 p.m.), the Lincoln Theater 4 in Lincoln (7:30 p.m.), and, as illustrated below, the “Red Carpet Party” at Capital City Bar & Grill in Springfield (7 p.m.) arranged by the Central Illinois Film Commission. Whatever your pleasure, have fun and stay safe, dearest readers!

We traditionally don’t throw down guesses here at the Secret MICRO-FILM Headquarters as to who will reap Oscar glory, but we’ll at least remind you of the Best Picture hopefuls in alphabetical order so you can debate below which is worthy: AMOUR, ARGO, BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD, DJANGO UNCHAINED, LES MISÉRABLES, LIFE OF PI, LINCOLN, SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, and ZERO DARK THIRTY. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences thanks you. Speaking of “thank you”…

We wonder what one of the lil’ guys would look like over on the MFHQ mantle. Hmm. Guess we’d have to retire a Godzilla figure or two to make room for it. Damn.
