10 Years Ago … Saturday, February 25, 2006: Opteryx Press of Champaign launches C-U Blogfidential, an Internet adaptation of the “C-U Confidential” section from their flagship journal MICRO-FILM. In the first entry, dated 8:57 p.m., editor Jason Pankoke describes an intention of “[making] a minor splash creating a community history through cinema, one that we can definitely call our own,” with the forum as its potential epicenter. CUBlog has published local film-related content every single month since then.
FLICKER OF THE WEEK
Based on the pieces we’ve run the past few days at CUBlog, we’re tailoring our first small-scale “FOW” along two specific lines. First, it’s a rarity in the C-U when lovers of vintage B-cinema can enjoy their poison in public, either at the Virginia Theatre in Champaign this Sat., 2/27, at 1 or 7 p.m. with the classic Shakespeare-in-space adaptation FORBIDDEN PLANET (1956) or the UI Foellinger Auditorium in Urbana, also on Sat. at 7 p.m., with the “exploding arthropod” double bill of BUG (1975) and LAVALANTULA (2015) during the Insect Fear Film Festival. Second, please note the list of locally-made media immediately following this paragraph and consider checking out one of them at the least. We would have never bothered with this non-stop Confidential business if supporting our local artists was not a primary goal. Make it yours as well!
