Both Allen Hall/Unit One and the University Laboratory High School at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign welcome veteran documentary producer Frederick Marx to town this week. Events include screenings of his films, JOURNEY FROM ZANSKAR and HOOP DREAMS.
Dormant C-U group Third Stone returns to life for a one-off rock-and-roll throw down at Fat City Bar and Grill in Champaign, IL, later tonight, Friday, September 20, 2013. We’ll show and tell you how movie-making has infiltrated their storied history!
Champaign Movie Makers, a group dedicated to fostering independent and personal filmmaking in the Champaign-Urbana area, will next meet at Shatterglass Studios just south of downtown Champaign, IL, on Tuesday, August 20, 2013. Focus will be on the makers of the feature HOUSE OF THADDEUS!
So, apparently we have time for pitching retro culture and pretty girls via Bachelor Pad Magazine and bitching about whatever irks on the Damian Duffy Hates Everything podcast, but not draft new material for C-U Blogfidential. Well, except for this. We’re confused. You?
In this edition of C-U Blogfidential’s all-purpose column, “The C-U Film Leader,” we talk about THE GARDEN OF CHLOE auditions, the passing of Gary Gardner, on-line Pens to Lens videos, the Avon Theatre’s new little sister, and film contests galore!
“Lost” underground local cinema has recently crawled its way onto the Internet in the forms of THORAXX II: THE BREEDING and ONE ROACH FOR SEAMUS, distinct species with a common genus (Pi Omega Omega) and family (Mike ‘n Molly’s).
This may not constitute a “scene” as we’ve been experiencing lately in the C-U, but at the least WE HAD THIS BAND and THE GRAVEYARD MENACE bring some fresh filmmaking blood to Bloomington-Normal!
Once again, we feel behind the times in our own reporting niche but that will not stop us from encouraging you last-minute to support Urbana Basement Sessions, engage in “Dinner and Bikes,” and revel in the success of Pens to Lens!
Filmmakers should take note of several outlets in the immediate region at which their films could possibly play in late 2013! These include the Freeky Creek Short Film Festival, Drunken Zombie Film Festival, Route 66 International Film Festival, and – gasp! – Chicago International Film Festival!
